He who sees a straight coconut palm will go directly to Heaven – an old Indian saying Coconut oil is a white, solid, crystalline, highly saturated fat that melts at around 25%C. When the fat is fractionated, a clear liquid separates off and this is what is normally used as coconut oil, but is not complete. Coconut fat is very often used for pessaries as it is gently on the inner vaginal walls. The oil can cause blackheads if over used but is useful for a very dry skin or scalpor for dry hair. The oils aids tanning but is not a sun filter. It lasts for more than 3 years if kept in a cool place. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body's metabolism, raises body temperature, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss. Virgin Coconut Oil helps maintain healthy intestinal flora, promotes healthy thyroid balance, promotes normal digestion, assists absorption of nutrients, and promotes overall health. Dr. Mary Enig has recently done research on the nutritional and medicinal benefits on coconut oil; she finds: "Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of the free lauric acid.“ Lauric acid is in breast milk!
