Jojoba is not an oil but a golden, natural wax. It is unable to be digested by the human body and is used as a laxative in many preparations. It is also unable to penetrate the skin and the best use for the oil is as a ‘sealant’. This means that it can be used after massage to ‘seal in’ moisture and essential oils and protect very dry and damaged skin. Jojoba has been traditionally used for arthritis and aches and pains and this may be because it keeps in the body heat to warm and relieve joints. It can be kept for at least 3 years in a cool, dark place. Jojoba has replaced sperm whale oil – ambergris. It is an environmental aid as saves arid land becoming desert. Very stable, resistant to oxidation so does not require preservatives – retains its properties unchanged at temperatures as high as 370°C Suitable for all types of skin, dry oily, sensitive, dry scalp, psoriasis, eczema, chapped skin, nappy rash, acne vulgaris, sun burn. Balances and removes sebum of the scalp and balances the acid mantle.
